This might be the longest weekend of Briar Gornall’s young life or it might just feel like it.

The Grade 12 student at Quinte Christian School will spend Friday and Saturday in Toronto as a national finalist, vying to be named one of the 30 prestigious Loran Awards winners when the announcement is made Sunday night.

The Big Island resident has emerged from more than 4,000 applicants nationally to make it to the final 80 with the 30 winners receiving scholarships to Canadian universities which are valued up to $100,000.
