Katie Yao is one sharp cookie, but it’s the marks she’s made outside of class that have put her in contention for one of the country’s most generous scholarships.
The Lo-Ellen student is among 84 finalists selected nationwide for the Loran Award, worth $100,000 over four years and handed out to “young Canadians who demonstrate character, service and leadership potential,” according to the Loran Scholars Foundation.
