To say Aidan Harold and Gracie Lowes made the grade in a Canada-wide competition to receive a prestigious scholarship would be an understatement.

While the Loran Scholars Foundation received 4,273 applications from students across Canada, only 400 advanced to the semifinal round of interviews, with but 80 of those making the cut and going on to the final.

In all 31 scholarships were awarded, so this year’s class of recipients represented the top 0.7 per cent of all applicants.
