Tumi is pursuing a bachelor of applied science in engineering physics. She is the vice-president, external, of both the UBC Women in Data Science and the UBC African Awareness Initiative. She also works part time at a non-profit that provides STEAM education to youth from the perspective of Black and African history. Tumi worked as a research and development intern at an agriculture technology startup using optical technology and AI to detect defects in seeds. She also represented 2000+ students as the president of her residence’s area council, and advanced connections between Black engineers and students as the partnerships chair of the National Society of Black Engineers. In her free time, Tumi loves singing, sprinting, and exploring new corners of Vancouver.

As an engineering science student at the University of Toronto, Anastasia is deeply involved in the Women in Science and Engineering chapter as the high school events outreach director, where she promotes inclusivity in STEM through networking events and skill development workshops for high school girls. She is also an active member of the Robotics for Space Exploration design team, contributing to the electrical subteam. Anastasia pursues her passion for theatre production as a volunteer on the lighting crew. Previously, she worked as a public policy intern at the Vanier Institute of the Family, where she published a report called “Fertility Treatment in Canada,” which provides a comparative analysis of fertility treatments, policies, and subsidies across the country.

Graeme is currently pursuing a bachelor of applied science in engineering at the University of British Columbia. He is an active member of the ultimate community, playing for the UBC Men’s Ultimate Frisbee team, which competes in the USAU Division—College Series, while also coaching at both his former high school and for club teams. For one of his Loran summers, he worked as a policy assistant, researching and developing policy recommendations for the British Columbia provincial election.

Originally from New Brunswick, Alex is a third-year student studying environmental science and biochemistry at the University of Toronto. She volunteers with the Royal Ontario Museum’s Saturday Club Program for kids, as an entertainment captain for UofT’s Relay for Life cancer fundraiser, and as an energy exchange volunteer with her local SPINCO, a spinning studio. Alex enjoys spin classes, running, reading, and visiting small cafés in her spare time.

While studying commerce at Queen’s University, Samuel volunteers as a project lead for a student-directed organization that provides pro-bono advisory services to Canadian non-profits. He also co-leads the Smith Black Business Association and works on a student-run non-profit focused on bridging the gap between Black students and the finance industry. Samuel is always looking for ways to blend his passion for business with his drive to make an impact through sustainability.

Banin is pursuing a BA in political studies at the University of Saskatchewan. She is a passionate advocate for Afghan women’s and girls’ right to education. As part of her advocacy work, she serves as co-chair of the Saskatoon chapter of Right to Learn Afghanistan and is also the co-chair of cultural and community engagement with the 30 Birds Foundation.
