Valérie is studying biomedical sciences at the Université de Montréal. In her new community in Montréal, she volunteers at a family center for their homework assistance program. She is also involved in a university committee raising funds for children’s palliative care homes. In her free time, you can find her in a small café, on a running track, or at a thrift store.
Tristan is currently pursuing a BSc in mechatronics engineering, where he continues to explore his passion for robotics. He is a lead member of a student design team developing affordable solutions for human-electronic interaction in spaces like virtual reality and serves on one of the largest student-run endowment funds in Canada. He also spent a Loran summer as a policy research intern at the Canada West Foundation–a private, non-profit, non-partisan think tank in Calgary–where he contributed to research on critical minerals, mass timber, and artificial intelligence.
Kubra was a volunteer teacher at a refugee school in Malaysia, where she tutored kids from kindergarten to secondary school in math and English. She also provided educational guidance and information to refugees still in Malaysia awaiting resettlement in Canada, and worked as a volunteer providing free interpretation services to refugees. Now working for the Multicultural Council of Windsor, Kubra continues to volunteer regularly and work as a freelance translator.
Hannah is pursuing a B.Sc. in microbiology and immunology. She serves as the marketing executive of Dalhousie’s knitting club, coordinating and promoting community fundraisers. She is also an executive member of an accessibility-focused program that supports children by providing adaptive physical activity and meaningful connections. Hannah loves working with kids through inclusive recreation and in-hospital programs. She also enjoys spending time in nature hiking or learning about ocean creatures.
Cianne is enrolled in a bachelor of science in molecular biology and genetics at McMaster University. She spent her first Loran summer in Tanzania, conducting policy reviews for various projects including an international study that looked at gender-based workplace violence at the primary health care level in Tanzania, South Africa, and Burkina Faso. At university, Cianne volunteers in a cardiotoxicity-based biochemistry laboratory and holds fundraising roles with the McMaster Students Supporting SickKids and the science society.
Julien is studying mathematical physics at the University of Waterloo. A Franco-Albertan, he is involved in student leadership through the University of Waterloo residence council and contributes to research and innovation initiatives, including Waterloo iGEM and a student group exploring space radiation shielding. For his 2025 Loran summer, Julien worked as a policy analyst intern at the Canada West Foundation, a public policy think tank. Outside of academics, Julien enjoys skiing and playing piano.
Blake is pursuing a bachelor of applied science in computer engineering at Queen’s University in Kingston. He is actively involved in the Queen’s Engineering Society, contributing to student leadership and community initiatives within the faculty. Blake also served on the executive team for CIRQUE, a student-led conference focused on non-traditional career paths in engineering, where he supported first-year outreach and marketing. Outside of academics, he plays in a band and enjoys sailing, running, and spending time outdoors.
Kira trains and competes as a member of McMaster University’s Nordic cross-country ski team. She is an emergency medical responder with the McMaster Emergency First Response Team, where she responds to physical and mental health emergencies on campus. Kira applies her lived experience to her role as a student researcher in the field of pediatric rheumatology, working to improve the quality of life for young people with rheumatic diseases. She is also passionate about climate activism and worked on a project determining the repercussions of wildfire evacuations in her home territory.
Sadie produced and directed a concert in order to raise funds and awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. She has also co-coordinated a virtual fundraising concert supporting provincial COVID-19 vaccination efforts. A performer and active arts-community member, Sadie has used her piano, dance, and vocal experience to coordinate her school musical, and volunteers as a dance instructor and choreographer. A member of her school concert band and yearbook committee, Sadie also works part time at Winners.
A big sports, movie, performing arts, and literature buff, Émilie likes to express her creativity in a variety of areas. She’s a soccer coach, day camp counsellor, and town library volunteer who loves to teach and share knowledge with others. Émilie is actively engaged at her CEGEP, where she’s taken part in, launched, and organized a number of theatre and film projects. She also has a passion for writing.
