Aishwarya is a third-year neuroscience student at McGill University. She is passionate about health justice and researched the intersections of gender and sex and chronic pain over the summer. She is currently an equity commissioner at the Student’s Society of McGill University, where she is working to make policy and community changes. Aishwarya volunteers at the Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada, dances bharatanatyam, and works with a non-profit focused on abortion access, equity, and decarceration.

Tin is on the varsity wrestling team at McMaster University and volunteers as a youth wrestling coach. He spent his first year in university on the Residence Engagement Committee and worked towards helping acclimate first-year undergrad students to a new environment. Tin is currently pursuing a Bachelor in Commerce.

While studying pharmacology and management at McGill University, Kai continues to be a high-level violinist, competing as a soloist and performing in chamber music. He uses music as a catalyst for connection, whether through performances in seniors’ homes or teaching. Kai is the president of the Students’ Society of McGill University DriveSafe, a service offering safe rides home for students, and volunteers as a math and French tutor. He spent his first Loran summer researching the intersections between gender-based violence and pregnancy back home in BC.

Ila is a proud member of the Métis Nation of British Columbia and is pursuing a BA in psychology at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan. She is currently completing a policy and advocacy course-based fellowship through the Indigenous Connectivity Institute. Her goal for the course is to advocate for mental health support in three areas: qualifications for workers in Indigenous communities; connectivity; and accessibility. Ila completed her community development summer working as an intern at Campus Alberta Neuroscience where she was able to support the implementation of their research, education, and entrepreneurship programs. She also assisted in the development of diverse network activities and events that enhance neuroscience collaborations in research, education, and translation across Alberta.

Alexa is currently pursuing a B.Sc. in bioengineering at McGill University. She is the founder and chair of the charity Girls to the Power of Math, which provides free programs to girls in British Columbia boosting their confidence in math through mentorship, games, and a collaborative social environment. Alexa is a speaker and contributor to organizations like the Engendering Success in Stem Consortium, the Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology, and the Science and Technology Awareness Network. Alexa continues to learn how to support woman-identifying students in bridging the gender gap in STEM. She is an executive for the McGill Sign Language club and organizes ASL courses with deaf instructors to increase accessibility and equity on campus.

Vincent is currently pursuing a B.Sc. Honours in neuroscience at McGill University. He is a researcher at the Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital, where he studies immune cells and autoantibodies in multiple sclerosis. Previously, Vincent researched the role of immune cells in embryonic craniofacial development at the University of British Columbia. Aside from neuroscience, Vincent is passionate about healthcare systems and health policies. He serves on the editorial board of the McGill Journal of Global Health as an outreach editor. Vincent is also a volunteer first responder, an amateur rock climber, and an avid runner.

Chidiebere is currently pursuing a BASc. from McGill University, double-majoring in Molecular Biology and Sociology. She is Vice-President of Sustainability on the McGill Biology Student Union, Co-Musical Director of Chromatones (a student-run A cappella ensemble) and Vice-President of Education on the McGill Black Student Network, a role where she works to empower Black youth and connect them with resources to increase representation in post-secondary institutions. Chidi spent a Loran Summer working as a Biology Research Intern, assisting with research on eDNA (environmental DNA) and genomic mutations, and another working with Campus Alberta Neuroscience as a Program Development and Coordination Intern.

Kevin studies economics and mathematics at the University of Toronto. He is a teaching assistant for a first-year calculus course, a learning assistant for first- and second-year economics courses, and serves as an orientation executive and social director for Innis College. Kevin spent his Loran Summers as a research intern at Parachute working on a fall-prevention toolkit for seniors; in India at the Global Pathways School as a community development intern working on a health database system; and at Analysis Group as a research professional working in economic and litigation consulting.

While pursuing his degree in Computer Engineering, Martin has held roles as a Professional Development Director with the Engineering Undergraduate Society and a Full Stack Developer at UBC Launch Pad which aims to build software applications for different stakeholders and organizations. For his Loran Summers, Martin has worked with Bombardier as a Product Management Intern, leading new software applications for the company’s private jet fleet, and with SAP as a Software Engineer. He’s excited to explore ways to apply his technical skills to community-oriented and high-impact initiatives like The Graphix Project and The Propel Impact Fellowship.
