Marilou helped found and grow a thrift store at her school. She first became involved with her student council in 2018 and is now the president. In addition to working at a bakery for three years, she is also an emcee. She captains her volleyball team, participates in various fundraisers, and acts as student representative on the parent committee and within the school district.
Sarah is co-president of her school’s student representative council. She is an active volunteer in her school’s peer buddy group for students with disabilities, a group fundraising for cancer research, as well as in a community outreach club she established. Sarah spends her summers working at Camp Glenburn as a leadership counsellor, leading campers on week-long canoeing and backpacking trips.
Lana helped establish a kids’ program that mentors youth in French literacy, offers arts and crafts programs, encourages community outreach, and holds fundraisers. She founded and leads her school’s student newspaper and crochet club, and she is head editor of the yearbook. Lana volunteers for her local library, where she also worked as a program coordinator. In her spare time, Lana enjoys practicing yoga, making jewelry, crocheting, and creative writing—and she created a business offering youth improv classes.
Chioma is the president and founder of her school’s Black Students’ Association. She created a peer- tutoring program at school to help students in math and English. Born in Nigeria, Chioma was a member of her school’s student government, where she organized protests and led a march to the principal’s office to protest unfair rationing to girls during a food shortage. She is also a U-Report ambassador with UNICEF. In her spare time, she enjoys playing badminton with her family, as well as cooking and photography.
Irina has worked as a camp counsellor at the Multicultural Association of Fredericton, supporting children and youth newcomers and refugees. She volunteers as a karate coach with the YMCA. Irina reestablished and systemized a homework club at her school, helping newcomer students to learn French and access academic assistance. She has illustrated books and organized a fine arts club, which she continues to lead.
Carly is president of a student-led club working to benefit children in Uganda by fundraising for things such as planting fruit trees at schools and building dorms for girls to stay at school to reduce the risk of being kidnapped during travel back and forth. She is a dedicated volunteer at school events and has taken on several leadership roles. She also works as a City swim instructor and a server at a retirement home. Carly enjoys playing rugby and softball, and engaging her imagination through writing with her younger brothers.
Sally is enrolled in Nursing at McMaster University. As an active member of her community, she is a part of several initiatives, including one that connects seniors and students to create meaningful relationships, and one that raises money for the local Ronald McDonald House. Sally is known for spreading positivity wherever she goes, and no matter what she is doing, she will have a smile on her face.
Billy is enrolled in the commerce program at Queen’s University. In high school, he was the co-president of the student government, co-founder of the business club, and involved with various sports teams. In his first year of university, he was an analyst for Apex Advisory, where he helped Capital Angel Network analyze the social impact of the companies in their portfolio. For his first Loran summer, he worked as a Kingston Fund associate through a Propel Impact Investing Fellowship. There Billy learned how businesses around Kingston provide opportunities and impact their community.
Neila is pursuing a bachelor of pharmacology at McGill University. She serves as vice-president of the Algerian Students’ Association at McGill, where she helps organize events to foster connection and cultural exchange among North African students and allies. A published poet and member of the McGill poetry collective, she continues to explore literature and performance as tools for self-expression and social dialogue. Neila remains involved in youth mental health advocacy through the New Brunswick Youth Advisory Committee for Mental Health. She is also the creator of SalleZen, a wellness space initiative on campus supporting students facing mental health challenges.
Ana is enrolled in Health Sciences Respiratory at Dalhousie University. She is in C2 of her respiratory clinical practicum, working in the NICU, ICU, ER, and OR. She has spent one summer working in public policy development at the Nature Trust New Brunswick. Ana also organizes a campus program called SPRING, supporting children with complex-care needs in the community by pairing them with university student buddies.
