As a software engineering student at McGill, Gracie acts an outreach coordinator for the Promoting Opportunities for Women in Engineering club, encouraging girls in high school and CEGEP to pursue engineering through workshops, tours, and events. She’s a member of the McGill Rocket Team, and has volunteered at the McGill Tech Fair, McGill Powwow, the Native Women’s Shelter of Montreal, and hosted guided tours at McGill Open House. Recently, she was invited to sit on panels: Indigenous Perspectives in STEM and Missing Voices in Climate Change & the Role of Education in Sustainability.
Wadii is a licensed parachutist who enjoys playing badminton, creating investment theses as an analyst at Queen’s Capital, and spreading financial literacy through Queen’s University Finance Network as a market research analyst. Wadii is also a loan committee member of the Fair Finance Fund, where he evaluates loan applications of social-impact-focused businesses.
Émilia is a computer engineering student with a minor in biomedical engineering at McGill University. As a member of the “Promoting Opportunities for Women in Engineering” club, she organized a conference introducing 200 young women from high school and CÉGEP to engineering. Émilia is an assistant professor for a robotics course, in which she helps teams plan their projects. Last summer, as part of her internship, she organized a five-day training and competition event for 200 French-speaking youth from all across Canada.
Rafael is an undergraduate law student at Université de Montréal. He has worked as a research assistant for professors in Indigenous law, constitutional law, and public international law. Last summer, he worked with the NGO Lawyers Without Borders, where he conducted research in international human rights law. Rafael is involved with Université de Montréal’s Legal Clinic, offering free legal services to the population. Within the Faculty of Law, he is a mentor and tutor for students in specific subjects. Rafael plays the saxophone and has a keen interest in music of all kinds, literature, film, and running.
Luka mentors students who are new to Quebec and is also involved as a mentor and tutor teaching debate skills to students of all university levels, while participating in several championships. He also organizes a plethora of art therapy activities for the community of Québec City in his role as VP for Arts & Crafts Université Laval.
Anthony is continuing his studies in mechanical engineering at the University of Ottawa. His research is interested in the manufacturing of catalysts via laser machining to reduce CO2 and transform it into useful fuels. He is involved as a project coordinator for a student social enterprise affiliated with Enactus Canada. Now a Propel Impact Investing Associate, he co-manages a social financing fund, transforming investments into positive global impacts. He also seized the opportunity to be a Quebec delegate in the heart of international political action in Paris while the French legislative campaign was at its peak, within his summer internship in public policy.
Julien-Pierre is an undergraduate student in Physics at the Université de Sherbrooke. During his first internship, he worked at the Barcelona Astrophysics Institute on a project to better understand light pollution and how to reduce it. He is currently the Quebec representative on the Canadian Association of Physicists’ student council and has worked to organize a series of events for students throughout the country. Julien-Pierre is also actively involved in Expo-Sciences, both at the regional and national level, where he fulfils the role of Ambassador within the organization.
Louise is a Francophone from Montreal studying civil engineering at McGill University with a minor in economics and environment. Involved in the STEM community, she teaches programming classes to high schoolers and works with Engineering Without Borders Canada (EWB) on various projects. She is an EWB Canda-Africa-Innovation fellow and the president of the EWB’s McGill chapter. She has a diverse academic background, straddling the arts and sciences. She began her studies in architecture before reorienting. These studies were always guided by a strong interest in ecological transition, more specifically in energy transition and food sovereignty. Throughout her career, she hopes to make a difference in these fields and participate in rapid adaptation efforts for climate change and imminent societal crises.
Pénélope is completing her Bachelor of Civil Law and Juris Doctor at McGill’s Faculty of Law. She is a senior caseworker and the VP Communications of Innocence McGill, where she tackles cases of wrongful convictions in Québec and works to obtain exonerations. Pénélope also volunteers at Project Genesis, a community organization assisting individuals with housing, welfare, pension, and healthcare issues. Throughout her studies, she stays active by running and playing soccer and enjoys drawing and painting. Pénélope has a strong interest in international human rights and legal advocacy and has spent her Loran Summers working with the UNHCR Guatemala’s Protection Department, working on forced displacement issues in Central America and assisting in researching trends in Guatemala’s Izabal region and at LICADHO, a human rights NGO protecting the civil and political rights of human rights defenders in Cambodia.
Laurence is studying social work with a minor in Indigenous Studies at McGill University. She serves on the executive committee of her student association and is involved with WUSC McGill, a student group dedicated to sponsoring refugee students and fostering their integration into both the university and the Montréal community. Laurence also coordinates a peer support group for facilitators of reconciliation circles between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. Additionally, she volunteers as a French teacher for newcomers to Montréal.
