While studying Sociology and Bioethics at the University of Toronto, Cai has sat on the Victoria College Equity Commission, co-edited the Sociology Undergraduate Journal, and partook in various artistic pursuits at the university. His most rewarding off-campus commitment has been volunteering for the Youth Action and Arts Space, making art and building community with 10–14 year-olds at The 519, a 2SLGBTQ+ community centre in Toronto. Cai spent his Loran summer in community development creating Interligne’s legal clinic and helpline. He has also worked as a research assistant with the Centre for Gender and Sexual Minority Health Research.
