In high school, Sumaya initiated a weekly drop-in class for Muslim women in her community to learn and play basketball. She was Secretary for her school’s Interact and attended a community development trip to Belize. Sumaya uses visual arts and poetry to revitalize Somali culture in her community. She hosted a podcast that engaged students with pressing topics and worked as a Minor Official. Sumaya is currently studying Neuroscience at McGill University.
