While completing her first year of engineering, Tumi promoted diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives as a senator on the University of British Columbia’s National Society of Black Engineers, and as the coordinator of a remembrance ceremony for the L’Ecole de Polytechnique Massacre. She volunteered as an advisor for an organization promoting youth civic engagement and represented African students in UBC’s African Awareness Initiative. She was the vice president of her house council and a member of a design team creating sustainable housing for remote communities. For her enterprise summer, she completed a software development internship at Amazon.
