Tumi is pursuing a bachelor of applied science in engineering physics. She is the vice-president, external, of both the UBC Women in Data Science and the UBC African Awareness Initiative. She also works part time at a non-profit that provides STEAM education to youth from the perspective of Black and African history. Tumi worked as a research and development intern at an agriculture technology startup using optical technology and AI to detect defects in seeds. She also represented 2000+ students as the president of her residence’s area council, and advanced connections between Black engineers and students as the partnerships chair of the National Society of Black Engineers. In her free time, Tumi loves singing, sprinting, and exploring new corners of Vancouver.
