Zelal is pursuing an Honours Bachelor of Social Sciences in Conflict Studies and Human Rights at the University of Ottawa. On campus, Zelal is involved with the university’s Islamic Relief Organization, where she organizes the annual Orphan sponsor program. This fundraising initiative allows students to team up and raise money for youth abroad. While in high school, Zelal was the McMichael Canadian Art Collection’s Youth Chair, where she was responsible for organizing various events for and with local youth. During the summer of 2022, Zelal was a project coordinator for the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce and helped explore the health ecosystem by addressing gaps and disparities in physician recruitment and healthcare accessibility in the Fredericton region with Ignite Fredericton.
