Sanay is the editor-in-chief of his school newspaper and chapter president of a club promoting careers in health sciences through conferences and competitions. He is the vice-chair of a regional committee that raises funds for humanitarian causes through events for high school students. He works part time as a lifeguard and aquatic instructor with his city, and volunteers at a local food bank. Sanay is passionate about bagpiping, both as a soloist and with a regional police pipe band.

Lubna is always looking for ways to spend time with her community. While studying inquiry-based learning in the McMaster health sciences program, she always finds time to join a new organization or try a new activity. During her time as chair of the university’s first-year council and as a McMaster residence ambassador, Lubna gained valuable insights on post secondary student government and continued supporting her passion for youth engagement with students in her community. If she’s not in a meeting or at an event, she’s probably at a cafe with an iced strawberry matcha latte.

Kubra was a volunteer teacher at a refugee school in Malaysia, where she tutored kids from kindergarten to secondary school in math and English. She also provided educational guidance and information to refugees still in Malaysia awaiting resettlement in Canada, and worked as a volunteer providing free interpretation services to refugees. Now working for the Multicultural Council of Windsor, Kubra continues to volunteer regularly and work as a freelance translator.

Cianne is enrolled in a bachelor of science in molecular biology and genetics at McMaster University. She spent her first Loran summer in Tanzania, conducting policy reviews for various projects including an international study that looked at gender-based workplace violence at the primary health care level in Tanzania, South Africa, and Burkina Faso. At university, Cianne volunteers in a cardiotoxicity-based biochemistry laboratory and holds fundraising roles with the McMaster Students Supporting SickKids and the science society.

Kira trains and competes as a member of McMaster University’s Nordic cross-country ski team. She is an emergency medical responder with the McMaster Emergency First Response Team, where she responds to physical and mental health emergencies on campus. Kira applies her lived experience to her role as a student researcher in the field of pediatric rheumatology, working to improve the quality of life for young people with rheumatic diseases. She is also passionate about climate activism and worked on a project determining the repercussions of wildfire evacuations in her home territory.

As a motivated and competitive baseball player, Aidan is a pitcher for the McMaster men’s baseball team, as well as for minor league team Hamilton Cardinals, an IBL affiliate. Outside of his athletic and academic pursuits, he works as a chiropractic assistant alongside a dedicated healthcare team to help patients with a variety of conditions using medical laser therapy. Additionally, Aidan is a rehabilitation facilitator with a non-profit called Head Injury Rehabilitation Ontario, where he assists clients living with acquired brain injuries.

Sally is enrolled in Nursing at McMaster University. As an active member of her community, she is a part of several initiatives, including one that connects seniors and students to create meaningful relationships, and one that raises money for the local Ronald McDonald House. Sally is known for spreading positivity wherever she goes, and no matter what she is doing, she will have a smile on her face.

Jakob is enrolled in the Bachelors of Science in Nursing Program at McMaster University. He runs a maintenance business called DeGruchy’s Property Solutions, as well as a student food drive called Feed it Forward. Jakob’s passion for healthcare has led him to become an active blood donor, as well as a research participant in mental health studies. He is an alumni of the Catapult Leadership Society and a founding member of his hometown skateboarding group.

Mahum is the co-founder of Agora, a student organization hosting co-working sessions for creators and makers. She also volunteers at a robotics lab and helps first-year students as a resident advisor. One of her Loran summers was at the Rehab Robotics Lab in Edmonton, where she and her team developed a diagnostic tool for shoulder cuff tears to be used in rural communities. She spent another Loran summer as a clinical research assistant at Toronto General Hospital, where she worked on organ transplantation research. She is a biomedical and electrical engineering student at McMaster University and enjoys competing in hackathons and engineering competitions over the weekends.

Avery co-founded the McMaster Alt Protein Project, an initiative driven by a group of interdisciplinary students dedicated to expanding alternative protein research and innovation. She volunteers for the Neighbour 2 Neighbour Community Centre in their low-income grocery program. During a Loran summer, Avery worked with the Pembina Institute in their Equitable Transitions department exploring the social implications of a transition toward renewable energy. She is currently pursuing a BEng in chemical engineering with a minor in community engagement.
