Joti co-coaches the debate clubs at both his high school and former elementary school. He volunteers as a youth prayer chanter at his local Hindu temple and plays in his high-school band. He has served on the student representative council and is a vocal proponent on the societal dangers of cancel culture. Joti is best known for engineering an innovative communication aid for the Deafblind community. In his free time, he plays badminton and basketball.
Corben has served his community as the youth director for the Salmo District Arts Council, as a member of the community centre’s youth advisory committee, and through various volunteer roles at the library and during seasonal events. He is also a social media marketing intern with the Nelson Overture Concert Society. Corben studies piano and teaches it locally; he is currently creating his own initiative to offer an introductory music course.
Eddy created the inaugural Asian Heritage Celebration in her school and community, as well as a pilot program to teach students the basics of project management and to create a long-lasting culture of change. Eddy volunteers with the Youth Parliament of Manitoba to help young people learn about governance and politics. She also serves on two student advisory councils to provide insight on rural education and how to best shape Manitoba schools for the future.
A sexual assault survivor, Becky gives talks about women’s rights in her township and actively fights to end violence against women. In sharing her story at home and on several media networks, Becky is able to guide other survivors. She uses her leadership skills in her role as president.
Sophie co-leads a sustainability club that engages students in activities to learn more about the environment and connect with community members. She founded a Youth Council in her hometown to provide opportunities for youth to learn and engage with the city of Penticton. Sophie is a ballet dancer and assistant teacher, a member of school leadership, and an SPCA volunteer. She loves to hike and explore with her Bernese mountain dog.
Anastasia is beginning her studies in engineering science at the University of Toronto. Currently in her first year, she is on a volleyball team and plays piano. She is also involved in theatre production as a volunteer with the technical crew. While in high school, she founded a technical team and captained a robotics team as part of her efforts to promote inclusivity and inspire girls who love STEM.
Alex is a life sciences student at the University of Toronto, hoping to double major in environmental science and Earth and environmental systems. She is a volunteer with the Royal Ontario Museum’s Saturday Club and an active member of the U of T run club. Alex enjoys learning about conservation and will be attending the 2024 European Man and the Biosphere Conference as a youth representative for the Canadian Commission for UNESCO in June. Her future goals include attaining a C1 French proficiency and running a half marathon.
